Richardson AnimaLuv was founded in 2004 by people wanting to donate funds to the Richardson Animal Shelter to cover special projects and items not budgeted for the animal shelter by the City of Richardson. These projects include medical expense assistance, adoption promotion, low cost microchipping and vaccination clinics, petting zoo assistance and a youth group "Partners of AnimaLuv".

The first project that AnimaLuv undertook was enhancing the shelter's landscaping. Twelve trees were planted in July 2005 at the shelter. Money was raised to purchase the trees through donations and the City of Richardson provided $600 in matching funds.

Since then, AnimaLuv has supported the City of Richardson's vaccination clinic and has sponsored an adoptathons, dog washes, spay days, and the City Wide Pet Day.
